Article Abstract:

Employee health care benefits have shifted from company-paid risk protection plans to tools for preventing illnesses and maintaining the wellness of employees. The funding of health plans is now done through insurance or self-funding and their combination. Health care is presently being delivered by licensed providers ranging from fee-for-service structures to reimbursement arrangements. Health care has ultimately been transformed into a means of protecting an organization's human capital so they would remain productive and ensure a good return on investment made by corporations.
