Why Delta is vital to the future of training

Article Abstract:

The success of the European Developing European Learning through Technological Advance (Delta) Program is crucial to the future of technology-based training. Delta must achieve several objectives to have a permanent effect on European learning, including: stimulating the development of relevant learning materials that are perceived to be very useful for education and training, training the people that will be needed to develop and support technology-based learning materials, and creating an environment in which technology-based training is accepted and its advantages and disadvantages are understood. More dissemination is needed if technology-based learning is to grow quickly enough to meet European training needs.

A praiseworthy application of interactive video

Article Abstract:

The interactive video package on statistical process control (SPC) developed by FutureMedia and the education and training department of the Ford Motor Co can very well become a training classic of the 1980's. The package includes five discs, beginning with an introduction, continuing through data collection to implementation. The courseware runs on an Alcorn Master with tracker ball and costs 4,000 pounds sterling of the total package cost of 9,500 pounds sterling. The dedicated work station is an incentive for buyers to train more staff. The future assimilation of the SPC into the infrastructure of the Ford Motor Co and its suppliers will be interesting to watch.

The potential danger of reaching for the trigger

Article Abstract:

Training videos are effective training devices, focusing the attention of individuals on core training themes through structured discussions precipitated by trigger mechanisms. Trigger videos are now used for interpersonal skills training, including: interviewing; supervision; and customer relations. The trigger mechanisms in the videos are devoid of specific content and speak directly to the audience, encouraging easy identification of individuals with the situation and facilitating their use as models for role play.
