What's wrong with HRIS?

Article Abstract:

Current human resource information systems are limited by the computer systems currently available. Neither mainframe systems nor mini- or micro-computer systems provide any clear future direction, according to Robert Stambaugh of The Hunter Group consulting firm. Personnel departments are left with only a handful of options: the comprehensive mainframe approach, which would be useful to both personnel and the company, but would cost in the millions of dollars to develop; the minicomputer approach, which would emphasize compatibility, connectivity, support and volume discounts; the microcomputer approach, which would be cheap and fast, but less than ideal from an operational standpoint; and a 'change the rules' approach, which would combine different systems and would work in the long run, but would be very expensive.

On-site elder care at Stride Rite

Article Abstract:

Stride Rite Corp, which has had on-site day care for its employees and the community for nearly 19 years, has recently developed plans to expand its facility to take care of the elderly as well. The company surveyed employees before making plans to provide the service to find out if elder care was needed, and found that 25% of the employees responding did provide some type of elder care, and an additional 13% forecasted needing to provide elder care within five years. Stride Rite personnel predict that adult day care will be priced competitively with regular child care, and there are plans to offer the service to both employees and community members.
