Dr. John Howard, director of the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) feels that the twenty-first century would bring new challenges for health and safety professionals. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has published comprehensive guidance for risk management of inland water hazards.

Article Abstract:

The findings and the recommendations of the Royal Academy of Engineering on risk management and assessment are discussed. The objective of the reports is to reconcile the differences between 'objective risk' based on scientific measurements and basic engineering principles and 'subjective risk' perceived by the non-technical public at large.
