Article Abstract:
The health care system in Argentina has been characterized as being inefficient, due to the diversity of providers. It has been asserted that citizens may pay as much as three times for receiving a benefit as they would have to pay for the compulsory public-sector administrators called obras sociales, the private entities called prepagas, and the taxes that support the public system. About 18.2 million people are enrolled under the obras sociales, 4.3 million under Medicare institutions and 2.4 million under the prepagas. Argentina's government is planning to improve the current health care system through gradual deregulation.

Article Abstract:
Several structural reforms and legislation in Argentina have supported the country's economic recovery. Enhancements in Argentina's economy are primarily attributed to strides made under the Convertibility Plan, which is an extensive reform scheme augmented by the recovery of the balance of payments and the passage of the Economic Emergency Law and the State Reform Law. Argentina was able to trim its inflation rate from an annual figure of 1,344% in 1990 to minimal figure of nearly 0.2% through 1996.

Brazil is turning the corner
Article Abstract:
Brazil is planning massive structural reforms but their success remains questionable because of Pres Cardoso's loss of two of his most valuable economic advisers. Brazilian Pres Fernando Henrique Cardoso sees the need for reforms to reduce the budget deficit and continue the country's economic stability. The reforms will focus on taxation and social security administration. Overall, many are optimistic that Brazil is already on the road to prosperity.
