Article Abstract:

Research by the Institute of Personnel Management and the City University's Rehabilitation Resource Centre reveals that there is a need for personnel managers to assist in helping to promote and develop disabled employees by recognizing individual needs and abilities. Personnel managers can take steps to improve job opportunities for handicapped people including: dispelling misconceptions about handicaps; reviewing personnel procedures to make sure they are not prejudiced against people with disabilities; helping handicapped employees to become connected with specialist disability organizations; and reviewing or developing disability policies for directors' reports which are required for companies employing over 250 people.
