New national agreement

National agreement was successfully negotiated on March 2003, between Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the Irish Business and Employers Confederation. The accord's main features which includes, interim 7% pay increase, raise in minimum wage, and redundancy provisions, are discussed.

The salient points of the agreements reached by the Swiss trade union confederation during 2003 and in the first two months of 2004 are furnished. Though the unions were pressing for 2 to 3 % pay rises, they finally averaged in the region of 0.9%.
