The Spainish Economic and Social Council's data shows a slight decrease in the total number of strikes and lock-outs in 1999, while it also indicates number of participants and number of days lost rose slightly. Total strikes for 1999 in Spain will be about 600. Data on the reasons for the strikes is also discussed.

Pay settlements resulted from collective bargaining in Germany, Norway, and Spain. Pay increases to metalworking and chemical industries were the largest. Opportunities for teachers to bargain separately for agreements were also part of the settlement.
