Article Abstract:
Hong Kong's 1992 Occupational Retirement Schemes Bill is expected to pass into law in late 1993 and will regulate the private sector retirement schemes in Hong Kong. After several false starts, the final bill's provisions appear sensible, clear and workable. Its coverage, independence of trustees, funding requirements, consultative committees and offshore schemes are discussed. The 1992 bill does not require any changes in the present rules and tax approval remains a separate issue from registration. It is likely that by 1998 20,000 schemes will be registered under the bill.
