Group health benefits fraud: who's winning a lose-lose game?

Article Abstract:

Certified Employee Benefit Specialists are surveyed regarding the fraud that incurs health care costs as high as $80 billion. Providers are pointed at as the party to blame, due to their alleged practice of twisting services to obtain a higher return than necessary. Thus, there is ethics involved. 'Forgiving' copayments is another aspect that needs further examination. Employees and dependents are not considered entirely innocent either, due to accounts of provisions abuses, false claims, and others. Most respondents do not support the idea of taxed plans to raise revenue for investigation and prosecution, but instead encourage employers to undertake tighter action.

Reinventing the workforce contingents at large: commentary

Article Abstract:

Members of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans Society of Certified Employee Specialists have responded to the latest CENSUS, 'Reinventing the Workforce: Contingent at Large.' Almost 72% of those surveyed confirmed their use of contingent workers. Most of the respondents, or 53%, recruited contingent workers mainly through direct hire. The most frequently stated reason for hiring a contingent workforce is meeting changing business requirements.

Cobra: a cross-examination

Article Abstract:

Interest in the controversial Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) has diminished. This can be perceived from the reduced response rate generated froma CENSUS of Employee Benefit Specialists. The survey showed that CENSUS respondents have either a good or fair appraisal of their rights and that the most misinterpreted COBRA topics are payment of premiums, qualifying events, election of coverage and termination of coverage.
