Employees' call: personnel department doesn't help
Article Abstract:
Results of a USA Today telephone hotline survey on job-related issues indicate that workers do not perceive personnel departments as an employee resource. More than 800 people responded to the newspaper's suggestion to call if they found work to be a frazzling experience. Respondents indicated that they do not trust human resources departments, do not feel free to avail themselves of grievance procedures, feel that speaking up about job conditions would negatively affect their position, and see performance appraisals as a one-way conversation. Callers also expressed concerns about stress, career development, and the competitive effects of special minority classifications. No statistical results are offered.
