Controlling personnel: management and motive in the transformation of the Czech enterprise
Article Abstract:
A study into four privatized companies, in the Czech Republic, found the role of the personnel department had declined. The personnel departments' former political and social role has led to its decline in the newly privatized industries. Senior managers now control personnel departments which have a role similar to older-style personnel departments, in Western companies, rather than human resource management. Changes in management styles are mainly due to the new management wishing to have a Westernized approach to business and to show their separation from the Communist Party.
