Article Abstract:
The Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) may impose new requirements that would mandate its members to keep abreast of developments in the field of personnel management. If the IPM Council decides to approve its draft policy on continuing professional development (CPD), those applying for IPM corporate membership and fellowship will be asked to provide proof that they are involved in CPD activities. The proposed policy will also require all corporate members to follow the Institute's CPD policy by 1994. IPM considers continuing professional development essential because it can help personnel managers cope with changing job requirements, maintain the standards of the profession, motivate practitioners to perform better, and encourage commitment to learning.
