Computer Techniques May Cut Lag Time: Manager Search Goes On-Line

Article Abstract:

Computerized data bases on money managers are being made available to pension fund executives. Money manager data made available through microcomputers will make it easier for pension funds to select money managers. Without the aid of a computerized search, the money manager selection process can go on for months. The firms Berg Fiduciary Consultants and Effron Enterprises are behind the Plan Sponsor Network. The Sentinel Pension Institute has also started a computerized manager screening service which will only be offered to its 100 Fortune 500 clients. The Plan Sponsor Network will be available to any pension fund who desires the service. The service will save time and the work of going through money manager questionnaires.

The computer languages now in use, MS-DOS and International Business Machine's PC-DOS, were constructed to encourage open access. The second generation of software languages will have to limit access to data stored in the computers.
