Benefits communication that goes the distance

Article Abstract:

Ninety-eight percent of the companies responding to a national survey reveal that their personnel, benefits, or human resources department are responsible for communicating to employees about benefits information. The departments often lack the skills to develop a successful information package that employees will read. Wang Laboratories (Lowell, MA) is an example of one company that has an effective information program. Wang created a benefits information program that provided trainers with seminars on sales and marketing techniques. The program also included brochures, mailers, and information systems, using digital voice exchange. The program achieved a 90% pre-enrollment rate.

Write effective messages

Article Abstract:

Written communication is often very important in work situations. To communicate effectively, however, it is important that managers make sure that their written efforts follow certain suggested guidelines. Positive communication does not substitute regulations for thinking. Effective managers also make sure any manuals used by their companies are appropriate and specific to the type of business and environment that exists. Additionally, effective managers make sure their written directions allow for discretion.
