Adopting a common corporate language: international human resource management implications

Article Abstract:

Multinational firms need to develop a long-term strategy for dealing with the complex issue of language commonality in personnel management. A standard language is vital for the success of firms dealing at international level, helping different offices communicate effectively and efficiently. Common language also plays a vital role in establishing company morale and ethos. People with language skills are usually set on a fast track to international level, while those without language skills may be given ample opportunity to learn.

Rethinking comparative and cross-national human resource management research

Article Abstract:

Research into the applicability of human resource management (HRM) models in various settings has involved analyzing five main HRM models. This work produced a contextual framework made up of four national factors and a set of contingent variables and organizational strategies and policies. This framework plays a role in identifying the main determinants of HRM.

The organizational and human resource management issues that arise in the international joint venture process are discussed. It is suggested that there are many challenges associated with the use of international joint ventures. These challenges are linked with many aspects of the international joint venture process.
