Action on equality in Wales

Article Abstract:

The Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) and the Wales TUC has signed a new protocol on race discrimination cases that lays down guidelines on the responsibilities of both parties in addressing complaints of race discrimination in the workplace. Wales TUC would also join the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) and the Welsh Assembly government to work with employers to tackle the problem of gender pay inequalities that would significantly increase womenEs take-home salaries.

Law plays vital role in promoting equality

Article Abstract:

New research comprising several studies highlights the existence and use of fair employment legislation that has promoted equality of opportunity and created a more balanced workforce in Northern Ireland. The Equality Commission has announced that it would hold a conference in 2004 to address several key findings of the research as well as the issue of achieving fairness for all in Northern Ireland.

Sexual orientation: a survey of union action

Article Abstract:

A survey conducted jointly by Equal Opportunities Review and Trade Union Congress on the efficacy of the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations, which came into effect on December 1, 2003, is discussed. The regulations were enforced to provide statutory protection to the rights of lesbian, gay and bisexual workers.
