Article Abstract:
There is some confusion between tool-process noise emission and personal exposure, relating to noise at work. The 1989 Noise at Work Regulations has action levels based on 'daily personal noise exposure' (LEP,d), and sometimes LEP,d is regarded as a measure of noise generated rather than noise experienced. Noise management should begin with a Noise (Risk) Assessment, followed by an action plan to reduce noise exposure.
