Need and demand reduction: maximizing value for health care expenditures

Article Abstract:

One major issue that affects the maximization of medical care value is excess demand. Excess demand for health care is defined as the request for medical services that have no impact on health. Research findings support that management of demand for medical services will improve employees' health and lower medical costs. Employers will also benefit through lower absenteeism, higher productivity, and lesser compensation claims.
