The Bay plans free-standing furniture stores

Article Abstract:

The Hudson's Bay Co., a department store chain in Canada, will start opening free-standing furniture stores in 1998 across Canada as part of its strategy to form specialty retail divisions. The company already has one free-standing specialty location, a Bed, Bath & More store in Newmarket, Ontario. The new furniture stores will be opened on renovated locations that were left vacant when the company embarked on a consolidation after acquiring Kmart Canada. In addition to furnitures, the stores will carry appliances, decorative accessories and rugs.
