Article Abstract:
Storis Management Systems will integrate Internet technology to its retail automation system. Prototypes, that consist of the Extranet and the Virtual Store, were shown to participants at a conference to underscore the new directions being taken by the company. The extranet allows remote outlets to have access to the chain's operating system while the Virtual Store enables clients orders to be directly fed into the Storis system. Testing of the prototypes are slated while their general introduction to the market will be in early 1999.

Case goods sources have heard retailers blame the pent-up consumer demand being caused by uncertain times as a reason for postponing new product placements. An initial ruling due from the U.S Department of Commerce on an antidumping petition targeting Chinese-made wood bedroom, times are indeed uncertain for importers, manufacturers, which include some petitioners and retailers.

The antidumping investigation did not result in higher duties and faced a mixed reaction from manufacturers. The reaction of manufacturers is discussed with issues of pricing and supply chain. Furniture Brands International will continue with existing sourcing.
