Article Abstract:
Shaw Inds. has experienced a short, fast and unstable operation in the furniture retail business with the recent closure of about 100 Shaw units, and 25 more stores in late 1997. The store closings happened despite Shaw's position at the top of the US floor-covering retail business with approximately $600 million in sales during the end of 1996. Most of the company's units will also be purchased by The Maxim Group for about $115, the same amount that Shaw offered for the purchase of The Maxim Group under a failed deal.
