Saving grace: a pair of architects recycled a Texas factory and cut to the heart of wide open spaces

Article Abstract:

Francine and Henry Carraro hired architects David Lake and Ted Flato to turn a factory into a home. What resulted was a huge house that blended well with the 20 acres upon which the house is set. Brick, sheet metal and concrete are used in this unusual house.

Pared-down Palladio

Article Abstract:

Architect Frank McGuire built a 1,050 square-foot house in Westport, MA, that seems much larger. He was influenced by the 16th-century work of Palladio, of Venice. The cost of building the home was less than $100,000. Results are pictured and described.

Suburban renewal: tradition with a twist

Article Abstract:

A couple bought a run down Norman-style house in Washington DC and restored and decorated it. Architects Williams and Dynerman created a calm and gracious interior. The details of the decoration and re-design of the house are described.
