Eaton's of Toronto, Ontario, will discontinue its furniture retail operations in 1999 after 100 years in the business. The company, which said it will concentrate on products with higher profitability, with stop selling appliances and electronics in its 64-store chain on Jan. 31, 1999. Eaton's, which ranked No. 6 in Furniture/Today's list of the Top 10 furniture retailers in 1996, will remove furniture, accessories and rugs from about 20 of its outlets in the spring of 1999, retaining them only in some of its strategically-placed locations.
