Mattress Giant names EVP

Mattress Giant has appointed Dave Powers as the company's Executive Vice President who will be in charge of merchandising, strategic planning and virtually in all other areas in the company. Powers is joining the 76-outlet, Carrollton, TX-based Mattress Giant that is currently undertaking an aggressive expansion effort. Most recently, Powers acted as vice president of sales and marketing at King Koil, which is one of the major vendors of Mattress Giant. At present, Mattress Giant operates outlets in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, St. Louis, MO, South Florida, Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, and Houston, TX, markets.

Pier 1 names Girouard pres., CEO

Article Abstract:

Pier 1 Imports, a 763-store specialty retailer, has officially appointed Marvin Girouard as its president and chief executive officer. Girouard, president, chief operation officer and a member of Pier board since August 1988, will replace Clark Johnson, who resigned from the CEO position and who will remain as chairman until he leaves Pier 1 on Mar. 1, 1999. Johnson expressed confidence that Girouard will be able to continue the pattern of success that the retailer enjoyed for the last 13 years under his leadership.
