J. Jill, one of two apparel catalogs of Hingham, MA-based D. M. Management, unveiled its J. Jill Homewear collection in October 1998. The assortment was dubbed as a test to determine its customer targets, merchandise mix as well as other elements of catalog merchandising, said the firm's executive vice president for merchandising Patricia Lee. It included several pieces of furniture in a 25-page section at the back of the apparel catalog. The catalog specializes in affluent and active women, aged 35 and older offering relaxed career to comfortable lifestyle apparel.

Macy's By Mail's catalog is expected to include furnitures as a major item, along with other decorative accessories and area rugs. The company, the new catalog unit of Federated Department Stores that is expected to be linked with Macy's.com, an Internet retail unit of Macy's West of San Francisco, CA, intends to include furnitures into the home store segment of its still-evolving catalog. Macy's By Mail's catalog, whose initial release was sent to two million US homes, is expected to contribute over $250 million in revenues in a span of five years.
