Fabric producers talking, not always to each other

Article Abstract:

The textile import quotas expire at the end of 2004 and the domestic producers of the upholstery fabric industry in the U.S. are scattered all over the field. The members of the official groups feel that the Upholstery Fabrics Group (UPG) demonstrated a lack of concern for, and understanding of, the upholstery fabric segment by scheduling its inaugural meeting in New York on the official opening day of the High Point market in April 2004.

Saxon succeeds Dunn as president of Culp Inc.

Article Abstract:

Culp Inc., a major producer of upholstery fabric and mattress ticking, made several changes in its senior management team that included replacing Howard Dunn by appointing Frank Saxon as the president and chief operation officer in High Point. Frank Saxon's long tenure with Culp has demonstrated his leadership abilities and the drive and energy to address the key operating issues.

Culp worked two years to establish China plant

Article Abstract:

Fabric supplier Culp feels that patience and persistence will help while establishing a plant in China. Due to Culp's patience and persistence, they were able to open a finishing plant in a leased facility in Shanghai in February 2004 with 40 employees providing finished upholstery and fabric to the U.S. and the Chinese customers.
