Canadian factories ready to face challenges ahead

The furniture and bedding companies of Canada have recently enjoyed the best years they have ever had, but they realize the years ahead will be challenging. Top manufacturers said that the industry faces at least three short-term challenges: a shortage of skilled labor, the issue as to whether to make product domestically or import it, and the unpredictability of monetary exchange rates, especially between the U.S. and Canadian dollars.

Imports not a big issue for bedding producers

Article Abstract:

The trends of the Canadian bedding industry are discussed and the sales in this line of business for the year 2003 and 2004 are presented. The comparison between the furniture industry and the bedding industry is presented. The imports from China do not foresee the same devastating effect on the bedding industry as on the furniture industry.

Toronto market likely to be lackluster

Both furniture retailers and manufacturers said that growth has slowed in recent months as consumers seem to be watching the stock markets in Canada and the U.S. Manufacturers intend to slow the pace of product launches into the Canadian market.
