Article Abstract:
New York State houses the retirement home of the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Jay. Jay built the Bedford house in 1801 for his wife, Sarah, and their five children. Christmas at the Jay homestead included sleigh rides, afternoon teas, formal dinner parties and evening frolics.

Dr. Clement Clarke Moore wrote in 1822 the poem 'Night Before Christmas' which later fascinated readers. Although it was not until 1838 that Moore acknowledged the authorship, his poem paved the way for the various depictions of St. Claus in paintings and drawings.

Mifflinburg in Buffalo Valley, PA is known for the hospitality of its constituents especially during Christmas season. Although it is a small town, tourists visit several holiday houses in Mifflinburg to view antique furniture.
