A midwinter garden may be enlivened with color by planing witch hazel, a shrub with spiderlike blossoms of delicate petals. The colors are red or yellow with yellow, orange and red leaves. One slow-growing variety reaches 10 to 15 ft. in height, blooming from January through March.
