The CEC Seabee Museum in Gulfport, MS, houses a huge collection of items used by the Navy's Seabees units. The Seabees or Construction Battalions were of prime importance for the military because they provided the necessary engineering construction jobs in war and in peace.

A damsel in distress

Article Abstract:

The Barnsley Gardens in Atlanta, GA, was built by cotton merchant Godfrey Barnsley during the 1840s. The garden, which was badly damaged during the Civil War and was left unattended, was bought and restored by Hubertus Fugger-Babbenhausen, a German prince, in 1988.

Piping saves precious roots

Article Abstract:

Landscape architect Bill Ray installed four-inch diameter perforated drainpipes over the original soil level beneath a concrete driveway.The pipes deliver air and water to the roots of beeches that line the semi-circular driveway.
