Steel column cover-up

Article Abstract:

Dealing with vertical steel support posts can be a difficult task in basement remodeling. One designer elected to cover such posts with wood surrounds that contained a vertical pattern. This solution not only covered the posts, it also made the basement ceiling seem higher.

31 new rules for kitchen design

Article Abstract:

The National Kitchen and Bath Assn has studied the changing lifestyles and habits of American families and has published new rules for ideal kitchen design. The rules, dealing with such issues as traffic flow, layouts and access, are listed and discussed.

No visible means of support

Article Abstract:

Frank Ragano designed and built sturdy kitchen cabinets that have no visible cleats or fastener heads. Ragano started with two vertical cleats firmly fastened to the wall, then fit dadoed vertical dividers over the cleats and inserted dadoed shelves.
