Seeking new plants for American gardens

Article Abstract:

Plant exploration has evolved from a solitary practice to a team practice since the activity began more than 200 years ago. Though Asia still serves as the region from which new ornamental plants are chosen, efforts to find plants from other areas are described. Nurseries, botanical gardens and government agencies serve as the sponsors of plant exploration expeditions.

Garden-worthy artemisias

Article Abstract:

The Chicago Botanic Garden's (CBG's) Plant Evaluation Program tested 26 perennial species and hybrids in a four-year comparative study in order to determine the best hybrids of artemisia to for Midwest gardens. CBG study rated plants for their habit, health, cultural adaptability and susceptibility to winter injury.
