Dejan's Olympia Brass Band of New Orleans, LA, has grown along with jazz in the city where the music genre traces its beginnings. Led by 87-year-old Duke Dejan, Olympia continues to be in touch with the past as it reworks old tunes to suit current tastes while adding popular music to the repertoire.

Article Abstract:

Danny Barker was a jazz artist who grew up in New Orleans, LA. He was a guitarist and banjo player who belonged to the same generation as Louis Armstrong. After playing for several years in New York, NY, he returned to New Orleans 1965, where he dedicated himself to brass band revivals.

The annual carnival in New Orleans, LA, is a festival of masked and costumed figures. The costumes are based on popular figures such as King Kong, Bugs Bunny, US presidents and heroes as well as vampires, cowboys skeletons and Zulu tribesmen.
