Rhododendrons

Article Abstract:

Rhododendrons make good shade garden plants and provide big, beautiful flowers in the spring and summer. Rhododendrons should be planted with other shade-loving plants, such as coniferous evergreens. Small bright flowers such as sweet woodruff or lily-of-the-valley do well under rhododendrons and brighten their appearance. Tips for growing rhododendrons and designing a shade garden are included.

In the fall, the soil should be spaded over. A U-bar or rotary tiller may also be used. This is a good time to add animal manure and wood ash to the soil. Planting fall crops should now be done. Other tips for handling the autumn garden are provided.
