Retailing in Canada: room to grow

Article Abstract:

Canada's economic stagnation between 1994-96 and a decline in house construction and remodeling projects are affecting the performance of the country's home improvement market. Home centers, hardware stores and building centers are general outlet types serving Canada's home improvement market. Canadians also purchase some hardware items from warehouse stores and department stores. The home improvement retailing sector is expected to grow in 1997 backed by the recovery of the Canadian housing market.
