Newcomb college pottery

Article Abstract:

Newcomb College established in 1886 was the first coordinate women's school to train young women for artistic employment. The school converted an old chemistry building into a pottery shop with one kiln and Mary Given Sheerer who trained at the Cincinnati School of Design experimented with several decorative techniques and found the application of underglaze pigments to bisque fired clay to be most suitable.

Art pottery of America

Article Abstract:

A history of art pottery in the United States is presented. Particular attention is given to the beginning of artistic pottery in the nineteenth century. The role of art pottery to the economy is stressed, as are the customs of placing factory or artist marks in the crafted objects.

Moorcroft pottery

Article Abstract:

Moorcroft stands out for the rich glazes that give it a beautiful deep coloring, in the rapidly growing pottery market. With the progress of Moorcroft there is no doubt that this tradition will live on into the 21st century.
