Collecting auto tokens

Article Abstract:

Auto tokens have become collectible as mementoes of automobiles of the past. Experts think the origin of the tokens date to 1904. Tokens were made of bronze, aluminum and rarely, gold or silver. Gas station attendants passed the tokens to customers but many were lost. Collectors can still find economical buys.

Coffee mugs with advertising on them are quickly gaining popularity as a collectible. Now is a good time to start a collection, because the mugs are cheap and readily available. The value derives from the fact that most have had a very limited production cycle.
