An estimated 75 percent of American homeowners carry insurance policies that do not cover replacement cost if a fire or storm destroys their house, as per a study released in 2002 by a Wisconsin-based construction-data firm. Some guidelines to help homeowners ensure they have adequate coverage, while keeping insurance premiums to a minimum, are presented.
