A woodland garden consists of assorted tall and short trees and shrubs that provide a shaded canopy for wildflowers. It is important to select the kinds of trees and shrubs that will not overwhelm the flowers with too much density and darkness. The needles from native conifers can provide too much cover on the flowers.
