Article Abstract:

The Antonio Ratti Textile Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art holds an extensive collection of antique and rare textiles from many cultures. The textiles are kept in environmentally-controlled storage, while a conservation department also works on preserving these fabrics.

The Cooper-Hewitt Museum at the Smithsonian Institution has completed the first phase of a $20 million renovation project and will be opened to the public in fall of 1996. The renovation included the connection of two townhouses and promoting greater accessibility.
