A Victorian parlor piano

Article Abstract:

The pianos made by German-born Wilhelm Heinekamp in Baltimore, MD, during the 2nd half of the 19th century are among the more attractive collectibles of Victorian art. These pianos had square designs whose frames were made of cast irons. They adorned the parlors of many homes as a status symbol.

A woman remembers the piano teacher she had as a young girl. She says that her teacher belonged to the category of southern women who were unmarried and eccentric with mysterious pasts. What little she learned about her teacher also came from the music she was made to play during her lessons.
