Article Abstract:

The production of R-12 refrigerant will cease in the US and in many other other countries at the end of 1995. The automobile industry is already changing to a more environmentally-responsible R134a refrigerant. Steps involved in converting to a new R134a system are described.

Freon-free A/C

Article Abstract:

Freon R-12, used in automobile air conditioners, has been damaging the earth's ozone layer, and is being taken out of production after 1995. The new refrigerant, R-134a, is already being used in some cars. Maintenance techniques for the new R-134a systems are presented.

Keeping heaters healthy

Article Abstract:

Automobile heaters are usually given little attention unless they begin to malfunction but, with winter approaching, they become increasingly important. The maintenance of heaters, including core cleaning, locating gas leaks and valve repairing, is discussed.
