Article Abstract:

Raising rare livestock is a way to preserve heritage breeds of sheep, cows, pigs, horses, chickens and other animals. Prized for their self-sufficiency, heritage breeds were frequently used on small farms before mass livestock production became the norm. In order to be preserved, these breeds must provide milk, meat, wool, eggs, or work. An increased demand for their products will ensure that they endure.
