The next step after finishing the model or pattern is to transfer it to the material, or the uncut piece. There are five steps to be followed and since these steps involve the final material, measurements with the caliper scale must be done with accuracy.

The most significant part of the carving process is refining the shape. The rough shape should be blocked out first before refining the shape of the carving, that is, determine first where the head is, the torso, and the arms and legs.
