Stamp collectors can find a catalog to accommodate their collections. Two types of catalogues are general and specialized. All should give instructions on using the catalog. Some are more compact than others. Scott catalogues provide separate books for stamps from different countries.

Many old stamps can still be used to prepay postage. Special services stamps cannot be used to send mail. Other regulations are discussed. Regulations that pertain to postage stamps are found in the Domestic Mail Manual of the postal service.

Watermarks appeared on postage stamps between 1895 and 1916 to identify look-alike stamps. Stamp collectors can detect watermarks with special solutions. Different watermarks that were used are described.
