Overfishing could eliminate the gene pool of the bluefin tuna, placing the species in danger of extinction. However, this can be prevented through tag-and-release fishing. The book 'Song for the Blue Ocean' by Dr Carl Safina also provides new insights on this issue.

Fishing rods and reels should be washed with fresh water, dried and lubricated before being stored for the winter. The roller guides on heavy-tackle rods should also be cleaned and re-lubricated. Another suggestion is to send reels out for yearly servicing.
