Challenge enough

Article Abstract:

Two faceting designs which are simple but challenging enough can be done by a beginner. The designs are Hilda's Hexagon and Beady's Box which are suitable for gemstones with a refractive index of 1.54 such as quartz. They were named after the designer's grandmothers.

Article Abstract:

A step-by-step process for making a mounted lapidary pendant is presented. Mineral specimens with flat backs for easy attachment to the background stone should be selected. Background stones should also complement the shape of the mineral specimen.

A faceting project for intermediate-level jewellers is presented. The project offers two designs, the pavilion and the crown. It makes use of leftover gems and the curved-faceting technique.
