Black, brown and yellow baby dolls became popular at the beginning of the 20th century as girls were encouraged to be encouraged about the world and its population. An overview of the ethnic baby dolls manufactured in the first half of the century is presented.

Moravian Church members have been making cloth dolls called Polly Heckewelder since 1872. Over the years the sale of the dolls has raised funds for wounded soldiers, newly freed slaves, missionaries and other charity work.
