African opal unearthed

Article Abstract:

Ethiopia may become a future source of opal if plans by Telahun Yohannes of the Ethio-American Resource Development Corp. push through. The country's opal, which contains both transparent and translucent specimens, is similar to those found in Mexico but is fracture-free.

Some of the most spectacular opal specimens have been dug up in the US. American opal boasts of a wide range of colors and patterns. Virgin Valley, NV has beautiful crystal opals, while those from Spencer, ID, have distinctive and attractive patterns.

Okanagan opal

Article Abstract:

A group of opal miners went to British Columbia to examine the precious stone found in the area. After two days of digging and exploring, the group concluded that the mountain was full of opal.
